Investment In Dallas Healthcare Keeps Growing
As Dallas’ population creeps up on the 30 million mark the demand for healthcare services is at an all-time high. According to the Census Bureau, some suburbs in Dallas have grown by over 100% in the last decade, and this has spurred on the need for healthcare and medical services for all ages.
St. David’s To Build Two New Hospitals
To cater to the growing community, Austin healthcare giant St David’s is investing nearly $1 billion into an expansion plan to build full-service general hospitals in Leander and Kyle. Both these suburbs have seen enormous growth, and even before the pandemic, there was a need for greater hospital capacity and care options.
The two new hospitals will feature 24-hour emergency units, critical care, inpatient and outpatient surgery and maternity and newborn services. They’ll also incorporate robotic medical services that alleviate pressure on medical staff and can assist with a variety of functions, from monitoring and assessing patients to assisting in surgery.
Tech Assisting The Aged
While building new hospitals is one way of investing in Dallas’ healthcare system, the use of tech to care for the aged is another. MyndVR, a provider of Virtual Reality solutions for senior care has just partnered with Omega Healthcare Investors. As part of the partnership, they’ll roll out their variety of VR programs in over a thousand senior living facilities.
MyndVR’s VR system provides therapeutic and cognitive enhancing assistance to the elderly, and it requires minimal input from a nurse or medical professional. Not only is it highly effective, but it’s also cost effective too, and a vast number of patients can receive treatment daily. Sodalis Senior Living has already rolled out MyndVR in 26 communities in Texas and Florida and aims to increase this rapidly.
Another area where tech is helping the aged is optometry. Dallas News reported that early age-related macular degeneration cases in people 50 years and older were expected to almost double to 17.8 million and cases of diabetic retinopathy are expected to quadruple by 2050. However, Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital has invested in new imaging technology that helps to identify eye diseases much earlier on. Dr. Nikisha Kothari said that new treatment options also make it easier to treat ocular conditions that were detected earlier on. The availability of this tech highlights the importance of regular eye exams, not just for the aged, but for younger people as well. With improved technology, facilities, and resources, make sure to get your eyes checked in Dallas as it’s convenient, fast, and will pay off in the long run.
Full Spectrum Healthcare
New hospitals, cutting-edge tech, innovative testing and treatment options are paving the way for Texas’ growing population. Retail giant Walmart is investing further in healthcare and has added BetterUp for Caregivers™ to its Wellness Hub that was launched last year. The new addition is an online coaching platform that aims to coach caregivers and offer support for daily challenges.
Whichever way you look at it, the local healthcare sector is getting a much-needed boost on every level and Texans shouldn’t struggle to access the medical care they need.
